At The EmberWood Center we care about teaching youth to make good decision-making skills to help them lead a safe, healthy, and drug free life. This is why we provide substance abuse prevention workshops to youth and family members throughout communities within the Indianapolis area. We utilize the “Heads Up” curriculum from the National Institute of Drug Abuse to educate youth about drug use in our society today. These workshops focus on bringing true stories of youth who have abused drugs while informing the adolescents of what effects drugs can have on the body.
During the workshops participants will be informed of coping skills to deal with social pressures to use drugs and alcohol. The adolescents will discuss their life experiences as well as their understanding of the material. During these workshops participants will be given the opportunity to select which substances they would like to focus on while in the workshop. Their choices include: Cigarettes, Marijuana, Ecstasy, Huffing, Steroids, Heroin, Cocaine, LSD, and OxyContin/prescription drugs. We also test the participant’s current knowledge of drugs and alcohol in an attempt to educate them about any myths that they may have heard about drug and alcohol use. They will also be participating in various quizzes and games to show how well they are retaining the material that has been presented. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like any additional information.
